Presentations

Chris Anderson TED’s secret to great public speaking
https://www.ted.com/talks/chris_anderson_teds_secret_to_great_public_speaking?language=en

TYPES OF PRESENTATIONS

Stand-Alone
In stand-alone presentations the slideshow is showing ALL the information. It can either run automatically or be clicked through. We use this a lot for our presentations during culmination as some participants can be viewing the show while others talk to the student presenter.

Traditional
In traditional presentations the slideshow should be a backdrop and NOT take away from what the presenter is saying. Minimal words and good graphics are a good idea.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Show students “touchstone” presentations to get the ideas flowing.
Students should then plan on paper before working on the technology.
Make sure to use good, relevant, and creative common images.
Make sure students cite all images either on the slide or at the end of the show.
We try to encourage students to take or draw their own images.

POWERPOINT FOR IMAGES
Powerpoint makes it very easy to create images. Simply layout a slide – select everything you need – right click – save as image. Using this you can edit clipart, combine text and images, and grab screenshots. You can also remove backgrounds on images.
